Our School
Blue Ridge Early College (BREC) has a long history of excellence in our thriving community. We are a North Carolina Cooperative Innovative High School. Students have the flexibility of taking Southwestern Community College (SCC) courses while at Blue Ridge Early College to earn an associates degree, or they may take SCC courses to obtain a workforce certificate, all while completing high school courses for a high school diploma.
We are proud to be one of the few schools across North Carolina to provide the vocational preparation for the NIMS certification for Public Safety and the Fire Fighter Technology program. This program is sanctioned by the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshall. Our partnership with the Glenville Cashiers Fire Department is instrumental in making our program a success.
In addition to our many instructional resources, our grades 7-13 campus provides each student with an individual laptop computer. Our ability to match the digital resources with our content standards is valuable. This allows for individualized learning and access to collaboration that mirrors our upcoming workforce environment.
A variety of athletic teams and clubs provide students with opportunities to expand their interests and abilities. Students can participate in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and baseball. Currently, we offer extracurricular club activities for our Chorus Band Jam Club, Interact Club, Prom Club, and Yearbook Club. Clubs are adapted each year to meet the needs and interest of our students. Students participate in clubs multiple times a month.
We also provide opportunities for students to participate in academic and service clubs throughout the school year. Students in Beta Club must maintain a 3.65 GPA. For middle school students, a Jr. Beta Club is also available. It requires students to have an A average to be accepted and a B average maintained throughout middle school. Jr. Beta Club encourages community outreach by requiring students to complete at least 10 service hours each school year. BREC also provides a Student Government Association (SGA). This group is composed of elected officers and representatives at each high school grade level. The SGA organizes events and fundraisers throughout the school year.
The Blue Ridge School Education Foundation has been instrumental in supporting our students through grants that elevate the learning experience for our students. With their support, we have been able to increase our media and technology resources, host an Artist in Residence, grant sponsorships for educational opportunities outside our BREC campus, and much more.
Blue Ridge Early College continues to maintain a high graduation rate with greater than 95% of students graduating. The Blue Ridge School Education Foundation annually hosts our Academic Banquet and Scholarship Night to celebrate our talented students.
The entire team at BREC is dedicated to our students. We believe every child can learn and should have access to education that empowers them to achieve their goals. This is why BREC is the best choice for students! Go Bobcats!
